The next Idol is . . .

Kingdom Idol

For those of you, who don’t get American TV, let me fill you in on some of the most popular shows: American Idol, The X Factor, The Voice – all singing talent shows, America’s Got Talent, and Dancing with the Stars. There are probably more shows in this category but you get the picture.  We are bombarded with people trying to be the next showcase.  People cry, they scream, they want to be “famous”.  Maybe at age 18 I felt like this at times but at 52 I just want to be left alone.

What would a show called “Kingdom Idol” look like?  Would a fast talking emcee call contestants up to perform their greatest “Kingdom deed”?  Would contestants try out before a panel of judges to see who had the best “spiritual gift”?  How would we judge the contestants?  On the number of souls saved?  The number of miracles performed?  How well they prayed?  How well they preached?  We could test them on how well they know the scriptures or how many books they’ve written.

How would our “Kingdom Idol” look compared to God’s Kingdom Idol?  I don’t think Jesus would have showed up for the audition yet alone performed on stage.  The people that Jesus nominated would have been laughed out of the audition without receiving a ticket to Hollywood.  Cripples, tax thieves, prostitutes, adulterers.

Auditions begin now for the next season . . .

Matthew 18:1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”

He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
