Let’s be honest

Let’s be honest.  This verse often makes me angry.  It is sometimes insulting.  It is generally misused.  Often quoted.  And an excuse for many things.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 NIV

I’ve heard this quoted by people who are in jail.  I’ve heard it used at funerals.  I’ve heard it in business failures.

This is the catch all verse for all times of trouble that God works through everything for good.  I’m not denying that but let’s not use it to cover every deed.

Remember there are some stipulations: “those who love him”, “who have been called”, “according to his purpose”.   This is a tough chapter in the Bible but a great chapter.  I encourage you to meditate on it today.

  1. So when all kinds of bad things happen at the same time, is it because you sinned, Satan is after you for trying to be Christ-like, because God is trying to hurt you or so that you will see good come out of it?
What makes the bad things stop? How long must one endure bad things so good will come out of it?
