Wikipedia: Hope is the state which promotes the desire of positive outcomes related to events and circumstances in one’s life or in the world at large. Despair is often regarded as the opposite of hope.
In many traditional Christian texts, the word is an indication of certainty and a positive expectation of future reward. Certainty is a key word. We are not “wishing” or “guessing” – we have hope. We “know” that we are saved and that God exists.
That is why we are not rattled when we read a comment “God is dead” or “there is no God” or “Christians are blind and mislead”. We “hope” in God. We “hope” in salvation. We “hope” in His truth. We could replace “hope” with “know”. For me, my favorite word is “walk”. I “walk” with God, in salvation and truth.
Hope. Don’t guess or wish. Know. Walk – run if you are able!
Romans 8:24-25 “For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one also hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it”.
