Control or Influence

We cannot control others.  Most of us cannot control ourselves yet alone others.

No leader can control their followers.  Employers cannot control their employees.  Teachers cannot control their students.  The government cannot control the citizens.

At best, a leader can influence those around him or her.  A leader leads by example.  Hopefully that influence will be positive and will better those who follow.

As Christians we should not try to dictate change and enforce laws.  We should lead by example rather than demand what we believe to be God’s laws.  By demanding, we only set ourselves up for failure, frustration, accusation and ultimately the rejection of God.  None of us are perfect.  We have all fallen.  When we demand that the world follow our laws while we ourselves break them we become big “H” hypocrites.  Remember to lead with the grace that Jesus shared to His followers.

Jesus held no control over his disciples or followers.  He did hold a great deal of influence.

Luke 5:11

So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.
