There are few songs that have been so popular for so long and that have been dissected, analyzed, discussed and written about as ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by Led Zeppelin. If you’re not familiar with the song, well, I won’t go there.
The song has been accused of being Satanic, containing backward masking messages, cultish, occultish, magical, mystical and romantic. Musically, it has been banned from guitar stores everywhere because it is required learning for any wanna-be guitar rock star.
Fans search for meaning. Where did the inspiration come from? Was it channeled from mystical spirits? What is the truth? Where is it leading? Who is the woman and where is heaven?
Critics spout bunk. There is no meaning. There is no channeling. It is a song written while intoxicated or drugged. It is a black hole of searching in a world of no meaning or purpose. There is no heaven and there is no point in searching. There is no Truth or heaven or Satan or spirits. Just shut up and enjoy the song for what it is – a classic 8 minute ballad of the 20th century.
There are some who never search meaning in life. They are content with what they see and feel. There are others that will always search for meaning. There are some who will quickly judge anything outside the realm of their religious world as “evil” and “Satanic”. There are others who can fall down drunk and say they had an encounter with God.
Where do you stand? Are you searching? Are you looking for the mystical ‘stairway to heaven’? Do you close your eyes when you see something spiritual and it doesn’t line up with your beliefs? Are you looking for rings of smoke through the trees? Have you found the May Queen? Are you trying to buy your own stairway?
Continue to search….and pray…..spend some time today on your knees.
Ecclesiastes 7:24-25 (NIV)
24 Whatever exists is far off and most profound—
who can discover it?
25 So I turned my mind to understand,
to investigate and to search out wisdom and the scheme of things
and to understand the stupidity of wickedness
and the madness of folly.
